A Graduation ceremony is a time to honour the hard work and dedication of a student's academic achievements.

Almost all Universities in the UK hold these events regularly, but it's great to see that an increasing number of colleges and secondary schools are choosing to celebrate in a similar fashion.

Key elements from a technical perspective are a PA system powerful enough to cut above the clamour and applause so the announcer can keep the show moving at pace.

If your using musical 'stings' to fill the gaps, you will need something that will pack a punch for the music, as well as for the spoken word.

Our JBL PRX-900 series PA is the perfect system delivering up to 6,000 Watts of power. More than enough to fill a large hall comfortably.

In this event at a Further Education College in West Yorkshire we used two 75" screens to display the category and name of the recipient, and a 6 Metre wide stage with steps at both sides.

Winners walked up one side, crossing the stage to receive their certificate and a handshake, and then left via the other steps. This kept the show flowing quickly and safely.

The addition of some stage lighting to add a splash of colour and celebration is a surprisingly cost effective way of enhancing the atmosphere. And in this case we used an 8 metre wide star cloth backdrop, which is a heavy black curtain with hundreds of tiny LED lights sown into it, giving the glitz of a proper awards show. We also added some wash lights to bathe the room in the college colours.
