Size doesn't matter: The truth about presentation screens

For most people, the starting point when thinking about the screen for a business presentation, would be a single screen at the front of the audience in the centre.
But how big a screen should you use?

For moving video images, still photographs, simple text based messaging or bold info-graphics, it can be surprising how a relatively small screen can still be seen clearly.
No matter how big you want your image to be, you must still make sure it is high enough so the bottom of the screen is still visible above the heads of all the people sat in the front row. Which means that in rooms with limited ceiling height, your maximum screen size is determined by the room you are in.
You can of course add 'repeater' screens further back in the audience, so you can still share a little more detail, even when your maximum screen size is limited.
But there is a point where it just doesn't matter how big your screen is. If your presentation slides have too much information on them, no one can read them.
Simple messages can still be read at quite a long distance away, but if you share a slide with lines and lines of text, or detailed and complex graphics, it wont be readable no matter how big your projection screen is.
Remember, the golden rule of slide presentations is K.I.S.S
Keep it simple, stupid.
